After many attempts to get on a server I am finally able to write. I am writing this from the home of Paolo and Maria Almirante in Milano. Maria happens to be a Ducale. I don't have to mention how an 11 hour flight to Munich and then Milano felt, especially to those who have traveled to Italy.
Paolo met me at Malpensa Airport and escorted me by cab to my hotel, Hotel London in Milano. Once checked in, I entered my room, tiny but much better then a seat on an airplane. After a night of some difficulty falling asleep, I showered and met Paolo downstairs for my first day in Milano. We stopped at a bar for espresso and a cornetto(croisant) and took the metro to the church which houses Leonardo's Last Supper. It is such a superb work of art it is quite difficult to imagine that I was standing in front of something which I had studied in school and seen and read about many times in books.
After the Last Supper we went to Milano's Duomo which is unbelievably large with huge stained glass windows and many tall spires. We also climbed up to the roof and I will add photos if I can get the computer to work in the hotel.
After, we took a bus to the appartment of Paolo and Maria and had a fantastic lunch of cheese, meats, wine, pasta, dolci and spumanti. For anyone, that is already a full day. A walk in town sounds like a good idea now.
