Street in Spoleto with castle. Cousin Valentina used to work there.
Steep Spoleto street. They are always up but it's a beautiful city. |
Mary Jean finally in Italy in Sorrento
Sorrento
Sorrento Duomo where we went to church. Absolutely beautiful.
Even Sorrento has an Irish bar and we found it. |
Wine, salami, cheese and crackers on our patio in Sorrento.
8:30 on a Sunday night and the streets are packed with people including locals and tourists and us. Dinner later of spaghetti, pizza and wine on a narrow street with Italian singing in the background. It would be hard to beat that.
Before leaving Spoleto I visited "The Sheriff" who owns the hotel where we had stayed. Afterwards, lunch from Clara and then a mad dash to return the car and get to the train station. In Roma, thought I didn't get off at the right station and almost had a heart attack until 2 gentlemen, a cardiologist and a psychiatrist said I was alright. Changed trains in Roma and on to Napoli on the high speed Eurostar in one 1:10. Outside the Station Centrale in Napoli makes L.A. look clean. Of course there was also a garbage strike. Bus to the airport where I finally met Mary Jean. While waiting for the bus to Sorrento met a film editor from Denmark who used to live in Texas. Then to Sorrento on the winding road along the coast with Vesuvius in the distance. Now for the good part, from the bus terminal we walked to the hotel to find no one at the desk. Finally a man showed up and after checking for our reservation revealed that we had no reservation. 9:45 at night and this news. Thank God, someone had canceled and there was a place for us. What a break!
Sunday in town was beautiful. Church at the Duomo and much walking. Lemoncello shops and pizza places everywhere. Tomorrow Pompei if the weather is good. Buona notte.

OMG - no reservation??!!! Now you have me worried - we booked on-line but I did get my confirmation so I guess we'll be fine. Looking forward to the next update on the blog. Very well done.
