The day started off very calm but it was the calm before the storm before the calm. Even the train ride to Spoleto presented a problem but more when I return home. Mary Jean, Clara and I went to Assisi today on a beautiful, sunny day leaving Valentina home to study for exams and Federico at work. Even the ride to Assisi was beautiful. We passed hiltop Trevi and Spello and before the climb up to Assisi went to the Chiesa of Santa Maria degli Angeli. In the crypt of the church was the body of St. Clare. Up in Assisi we had lunch and strolled into churches and saw the homes of St. Francis and St. Clare. It was awesome and humbling. On the way back to Spoleto we made a wrong turn and ended up along a beautiful stretch of road below Assisi which contained a WWII military cemetery. Tonight is dinner with the family, a truly wonderful family. It is comforting to see Ducale on the door.
